FIJI AIRCRAFT REGISTER

The British Colonial VQ-F Register operated from 1929. It was replaced with DQ- following independence in 1971. Existing aircraft were re-registered simply by changing first letter. The DQ-Fxx block has continued in sequence for several new registrations, with some re-use. Out-of-sequence allocations started from 1993.
Unusually, the Fijian ICAO aircraft registration prefix does not match the ITU prefix for radio callsigns. The ITU radio callsign prefix block 3D is the only one which was split between two countries. The first part is allocated to Swaziland, which was also allocated the 3D registration prefix. The second part of 3D was allocated to Fiji, but to avoid confusion ICAO allocated Fiji with a different registration prefix, assigning DQ- (which ITU had allocated to Germany).
The early part of this register was summarised from the listing in Air Britain Archive for Autumn & Winter 1980. Subsequent additions have mainly been collated from listings in Air Britain News, plus individual sighting reports on the internet and by e-mail. Cross-checked with Joe Barr in Jan 2013 and the www.rotorspot.nl website.
